Training for Myanmar Social Workers
YSSW (Yangon School of Social Work) hosts monthly talk series for Myanmar Social Workers. YSSW is a newly established school, aims to promote social work education and to enhance social work profession in Myanmar through development of knowledge and skills of working professionals from the field of social work in Myanmar.
Kamau Consulting was invited to lead the very first talk series on April 30th, 2022. Dr. Michelle Kamau shared insights on Social Work ethics and how it relates to social work practices within the Myanmar culture context. The event was followed by discussions and Q&A session for current and aspiring Social Workers in Myanmar. Myanmar is facing multiple challenges (economically, socially, and politically) since the military declared a coup d’etat in February 2021. Social services and the role of Social Workers have been nearly impossible ever since. Despite the extreme challenges, people of Myanmar continue to press on with courage and resilience. Kamau Consulting is honored to be a part of Myanmar Social Workers’ professional development and education.
Dr. Michelle Kamau’s doctoral research focused on professional development and education of Myanmar Social Workers. She developed the “Professional Standards for Myanmar Social Workers”.
